*No, seriously. I don’t know what we would’ve done without it!*

If there’s one thing I would tell a sister who’s preparing to make hijrah, it’s this:

**Girl, PLEASE join the WhatsApp groups!**

I’m so serious. LOL.

I cannot express how crucially important WhatsApp groups have been throughout our hijrah journey.

Like, without WhatsApp, I genuinely don’t know how my husband and I would’ve adjusted to living in different countries, learned how things worked, figured out where to go, or connected with other Muslims.

That might sound crazy, but I’m dead serious.

I’d say a good **90–95%** of everything we’ve learned, the resources we’ve found, and the people we’ve connected with throughout our hijrah journey has come through WhatsApp.

NINETY TO NINETY-FIVE PERCENT.

That’s crazy when you think about it!

Alhamdulillah, technology has made it possible to connect with sisters living halfway across the world and learn so much about a country before you’ve even stepped foot in it.

And some of those sisters are people we’re still friends with today!

**The sisters who helped before we even arrived**

Whenever we were considering making hijrah to another country, I would join the sisters’ WhatsApp groups and start asking questions.

What was life like there? What were the best areas to live? How did people get around? What should newcomers know?

And sometimes sisters would privately message me just to answer my questions!

They didn’t have to do that.

They could’ve simply replied in the group, but some would reach out, introduce themselves, and we’d end up chatting about all sorts of things.

Most of these sisters were muhajiraat themselves, so they’d share their experiences, what they wished they’d known, and things they recommended doing or avoiding.

Of course, I always tried to ask several sisters similar questions. Everyone’s experience is different, and what works beautifully for one family might be difficult for another.

I wanted to see where their experiences overlapped and where something might’ve been specific to their circumstances.

But SubhanAllah, having access to sisters who’d already done what we were preparing to do helped us tremendously.

When we first moved to Egypt, we were also blessed to know another American couple who helped us get acquainted with our surroundings.

The sister’s mother even allowed us to stay in her apartment while ours was being finished.

And they had it set up so nicely for us! Pillows, snacks, soaps, water bottles, and other little necessities.

It was like we’d arrived at a hotel or something!

Later, when I gave birth, sisters organized meals for me, and some even gave us gifts.

May Allah reward them all with good.

**More than just information**

That’s something I’ve come to appreciate so much about connecting with sisters after hijrah.

You might initially join a group because you’re trying to find an apartment, a doctor, or the nearest grocery store.

But sometimes those conversations develop into friendships, and the same sisters who helped you figure out where to shop are now checking on you when you’ve given birth.

Alhamdulillah!

Allah encourages us to cooperate upon righteousness and piety in Surah Al-Ma’idah (5:2), and I’ve been blessed to experience that kindness from so many sisters throughout our hijrah journey.

So if you’re preparing to make hijrah, I really cannot recommend finding those sisters’ groups enough.

Start connecting with people before you even arrive, ask questions, learn from their experiences, and get to know the sisters.

You never know how much Allah may allow you to benefit from those connections, or how you might be able to benefit someone else!

May Allah reward all the sisters who go out of their way to help their fellow Muslims.

Allahumma Ameen.
